Repair or Replace? How to Decide About Your Phone
Compare the repair quote with the remaining update window and the resale value. A simple rule that avoids both false economy and needless upgrades.
Short answer: Repair when the quote is under roughly a third of the cost of an equivalent replacement and the phone still has at least two years of security updates left. Replace when updates are ending, when the repair is a motherboard or water-damage job, or when two separate faults appear within a few months of each other.

Security update length is the real expiry date of a phone. A device that stops receiving patches becomes a poor place to keep banking apps, whatever its physical condition. Manufacturers publish support windows; check yours before spending anything on repair.
